Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy gave me and my two boys (ages 7 and 10) an unforgettable experience in Lahaina. The 2 hour private lessons was fantastic. Starting with basics and balance, to actually catching 🌊 waves. Sierra was awesome. Couldn’t have asked for a better instructor for 11 year old first surfing.

I was so happy to join this surf academy. The staff was amazing and we got great pictures. It can be a tough work out but totally worth when you catch a wave. They were great with kids, very patients and supportive.

We absolutely loved our surfing experience! They were great at communication on where to meet up and we absolutely loved Lee our instructor. Our boys are 11 and 15 and both loved it so much we signed for another lesson the next day! The best!! Thank you!

Our surf instructors with Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy were amazing. This is the second time we’ve used them and we wouldn’t look anywhere else. They were so great with all of our kids (ages 4-12). Had fun, joked with them and encouraged them. Our kids all had a blast! They tailored to each of their abilities. We were on vacation as a big family so cousins were surfing together. The instructors did a great job making it fun for all to do together.

My husband, mother in law, aunt and I had a group lesson with Lee who was not only professional and fun but also made sure we were safe and successful. All four of us (who are in our 30s and 60s) were successful at catching the waves 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️, even for our first time surfing! Ric, their on site photographer was amazing as well. Definitely don’t sleep on getting your photos. We highly recommend the whole experience.

Absolutely incredible experience with Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy! The instructors were super friendly, patient, and incredibly skilled—perfect for first-timers. My 12-year-old had never surfed before and, with expert coaching, caught his first three waves—on a big day at Guardrails! As a parent, I was so impressed with how safety-conscious and attentive they were. They gave him space to have fun but were always close by and ready to help. It made all the difference. My wife and I did the 2 hour semi private lesson together. Tavner really really knows what he is doing. My wife and I were both able to get standing multiple times and catch waves. This is something that we would 100% do again if we came back to Maui.

Communication was great and we knew exactly where to find our instructors. The instructors were super patient and great with my kids. They obviously knew what they were doing and had all kinds of helpful tips. Overall a great experience!

I highly recommend Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy to anyone looking to learn how to surf. My daughter and I had Lee as our instructor and he did an excellent job providing us tips after each run to improve our chances of catching the next wave. He did everything within his control to help us catch as many of waves as possible, and very quickly we were able to ride the waves without as much assistance. Lee was friendly and fun to spend our lesson with too!
