Who is Hans Hedemann?

Hans Hedemann is a professional surfer and surf instructor who became one of Hawaii's most recognized surf coaches after a professional competitive career. Born in Germany and raised in Hawaii, he competed professionally on the international circuit during the 1980s and 1990s, renowned for his big wave surfing at Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore. After competing, he founded Hans Hedemann Surf School on Oahu with locations in Waikiki and the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore. The school offers lessons from 5 for beginners in Waikiki to 00 for private North Shore coaching sessions. His instructors teach the same foundational techniques he used in competition, with a strong emphasis on ocean safety and reading waves.
