Which island to skip in Hawaii?
No Hawaiian island is objectively skip-worthy, but Molokai and Lanai are often omitted due to limited tourism infrastructure. Molokai has fewer than 10 hotels, no traffic lights, and almost no restaurants — it's intentionally undeveloped. Lanai has two Four Seasons resorts and little else unless you enjoy off-road driving. Among the four main islands, most visitors choose two or three based on interests. If you've done Oahu and Maui, the Big Island is the logical next destination for its volcanic landscape and manta ray diving. Kauai is spectacular but similar to Maui in some respects. The island most likely to disappoint expectations is Maui if you visit in summer peak — accommodation prices are at their highest and popular beaches require reservations. Whatever you choose, each island delivers a genuinely different Hawaii experience.
