What to do at the North Shore of Oahu?
The North Shore packs an enormous amount into a single day. Start with breakfast in Haleiwa town — Giovanni's shrimp truck and Kono's are institutions. Drive east along Kamehameha Highway stopping at Laniakea Beach for sea turtle sightings year-round. At Waimea Bay, cliff jump from the famous rock in summer when seas are calm. Sharks Cove offers excellent snorkeling May–September with lava tube swim-throughs. Watch professional surfers at Banzai Pipeline during winter swells (November–February). Sunset Beach rounds out the route. Shave ice at Matsumoto's or Aoki's in Haleiwa is non-negotiable. The full route takes four to six hours by car. Combine with a surf lesson from Hans Hedemann or North Shore Surf School for a complete active day.
