Is the Road to Hana excursion worth it?

Yes — the Road to Hana is worth it for most visitors, especially first-timers to Maui. The 52-mile coastal highway passes rainforest waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo groves, sea cliffs, and lava coastline. Wai'anapanapa State Park and Wailua Falls alone justify the journey. The experience is different from anything else in Hawaii. The caveat: it's a long day (10–12 hours), the drive back after dark is exhausting, and the road itself is the attraction — not just the destination of Hana town. If you're prone to motion sickness, take medication before going. A guided tour with Valley Isle Excursions ($216–280) handles the driving and navigation, making it significantly more enjoyable. If you only have one full day on Maui, choose between Road to Hana and a snorkeling trip to Molokini.
