What is the rainy season in Kauai?
Kauai's rainy season runs from November through March, with December and January seeing the heaviest rainfall. The north shore — Hanalei, Princeville, and Haena — receives the most rain and is occasionally cut off by flash floods closing the road to Ke'e Beach. The south shore around Poipu receives significantly less rain year-round and is the best bet for sunny weather in winter. Waimea Canyon on the west side is drier than the north shore but can be cloudy. Helicopter tours are most frequently delayed or modified during November through February due to cloud cover over interior peaks. Despite the rain, waterfalls run most dramatically in winter — Wailua Falls and the interior Waimea tributaries are spectacular after heavy rainfall. Summer (May–September) is Kauai's driest and sunniest period for travel.
