What is the best time to visit Smith's Garden?
Smith's Tropical Paradise — the garden property where Smith's Family Luau is held — is open for self-guided tours during the day (9 AM–4 PM, 0 entry) and for the luau in the evening. The garden is most beautiful in the early morning when mist lingers over the Wailua River and birds are active. For luau attendance, shows run nightly at 5:30 PM — arrive 30 minutes early for the garden walk and open bar. Kauai's north shore receives significantly more rain than the south, so the Wailua River area (east side) can see afternoon showers. These typically pass quickly and don't disrupt the outdoor show. Avoid visiting during peak summer (June–August) if you prefer smaller crowds, as the luau is most popular then. December–January sees fewer tourists but also the highest rain probability in the garden.
